Sensory Services

The Barking and Dagenham Sensory Team offer guidance, information, advice, rehabilitation training and minor adaptations support to help you manage your sight and/or hearing loss.

If you feel your sight or hearing loss is affecting your day to day life and you feel you need some help, it may be that the Sensory Team can help.

When contacting the INTAKE TEAM please provide:

Your full name; address; date of birth; and the reason for the referral:- this could be you have a hearing loss or sight loss or both; this may affect your ability to go out; make a cup of tea; use the phone; use your hearing aids or it maybe you are feeling low about your sensory loss. Our work is to help you stay independent and to help you do things for yourself.

If you need an interpreter for your Sensory Assessment, please let the intake team know.

 Face to Face contacts

For informal, face to face contacts with members of the sensory team, you can attend either the Deaf Drop In service for people that are deaf or hard of hearing or the Magnifying and Lighting Workshops for people that have a visual impairment. For people with a combined sight and hearing impairment please attend the service that you think you need most or both. Our staff will happily answer any questions about your sensory loss and offer guidance and advice best suited to your needs.

If you have a communication need (other than British Sign Language if attending the Deaf Drop In Service) please attend with someone that can assist you.
